Personal Work . Mood Boards . Hand Sketches .

I begin my design process by telling the story of the woman who will wear the shoes I am yet to create. I envision who she is; imagine the places she has traveled to and where she finds her comfort and joy; and picture the colors, textures, and objects that she might gravitate towards. Visual mood boards bring these elements together to reveal her character to me. The most thrilling moment in the process is when I can translate the elements of the mood board into a specific sophisticated, feminine concept – a minimal aesthetic, or a decadent sophistication, or a more casual whimsical style – leading to the creation of a compelling product.

“Creativity is just connecting things. When you ask creative people how they did something, they feel a little guilty because they didn’t really do it, they just saw something. It seemed obvious to them after a while.”
